Using the following system, put your sites wording and navigation together in a way which guides the surfer to your "product":

Grab their ATTENTION
Get them INTERESTED
Build their DESIRE for your "product"
Get them to ACT now

For now, where you don't yet have a product, just put things like "get XXXX today" or "click here now to buy XXXX" Get the idea? You're building a site around a subject which will lead your surfer to a product that they need. You are NOT just putting up lots of links to a product that someone may or may not follow.

Let's look at this in more detail:

Decide and write down the answers to the following:

What will your surfers problems be? (prioritise)
What will they have tried that doesn't work?
What is it that would solve their problem?
How can your "product" help?
Why should they choose your "product"
And Why should they choose your "product" today?

Now lets try an example using gardening as the subject and just highlight one problem:

Problem:
- Gardeners often suffer bad backs from digging pruning and weeding
- They hate weeds and fight a constant battle with them which takes time and energy
- They may have brown or burnt grass which spoils the look of their lawn
- Their soil may be acidic which prevents certain plants from growing
Most gardeners will have tried stretching exercises and kneeling mats, they may have helped a little but their problem remains because they still have to bend to use their tools
If they could garden without bending, their back would not hurt.
